.Magazine Program: Move Barriers
Speaker 2: Peter Steinkellner has trained at ?Holmes Place? and is not dissatisfied.
OT Peter Steinkellner: ?I would define it as follows: It satisfactory, if you were to give it a school it would be a C-. It?s not really bad, I never experienced anything bad, but not much was offered either. Where you hardly met anyone and you can say if he actually found you. But it?s not a complaint. I was satisfied. They are there. One can find someone fairly quickly, but not much volunteer help. My impression was ? they don?t like to go to customers and ask: Do you need anything??
Speaker 1:
During our visit we found that in the training area there was actually a handicap toilet, but the changing room and showers were not barrier free.
Speaker 2:
In summary: People in wheelchairs still have a hard time in Vienna to find a suitable Fitness Studio to use.
Fazit: Menschen im Rollstuhl haben es also noch immer schwer in Wien, ein geeignetes Fitness-Studio zu finden. Possible reasons are in the event of stairs there are no available elevators; heavy doors; or lack of grips in the toilets.
Speaker 1: It looks different for people with other handicaps, like difficulties seeing or learning disabilities. Martin Joppich, who lost a leg in a car accident, has had the following positive experience:
OT Martin Joppich: Actually relatively good. I was at two different fitness centers in the last two years and I must say I was treated well as a person.
Speaker 2: There some people with handicaps that are very satisfited. But our survey showed that even in Fitness Centers where the management has tried to barrier free, the Ö-Norm B-1600 was not fulfilled and those affected do not have access everywhere.

Moderation: We now leave Austria and turn to the neighboring country, Hungary. There since the turning point and also through the EU membership there are advances along the way to barrier freedom to be told. Beata Gergye found the hungrarian group MEOSZ and discovered that there is still much work to do in the area of barrier freedom.
Speaker, Beate Gergye:The association MEOSZ has represented handicapped people for 20 years and has always covered problem areas for handicap people in Hungry by plugging the holes that occur in the legal system.
The parent organization MEOSZ encompasses 91 handicap groups and has 103,060 members.
MEOSZ offer help and advice for people with handicaps, in the work place or with sport, career training and culture possibilities, so they can live independently as the organization explains?(about 20 sec.)
